God revealed to me about 6 years ago that He wanted me to be a missionary to unreached people groups. I assumed that would consist of landing and preaching. But, as I spent time in foreign countries, I realized that it can't really work that way. They, like anybody else, want to know that they are cared for as a whole person. So I realized I needed a skill to offer. I chose teaching; or, rather, God chose teaching for me. I'm glad He did because I've seen the impact first-hand that schools can have on communities. In fact, my fiance and I are right now starting a school in Northern Uganda which will begin February 4. Over Christmas break, I was able to see the kind of hope that it is bringing to that community. They consider it their miracle. ... That's why I want to teach.
I'm majoring in Secondary Ed, and my endorsement is in English/Language Arts. However, I don't care which age or subject I teach once I'm overseas. I will just teach wherever there is need. (Though the largest need is often for secondary education; many students' education stops at age 12 because secondary schools simply do not exist in some areas.) While in the U.S., I prefer high school; but my Practicum I is 7th grade. I'm open to anything.

I think that after introducing people to God the second best thing that we can do is to provide excellent education for them so they can grow and learn and become the person that God intended them to be. I would love to hear more about the school that you and your fiance are starting next month. Have you thought about creating a blog that you can share with others?
Wow, I have to give you mad props for your ambition in missionary work and future teaching overseas. I think you should have a time when you tell us all about your experiences, etc.
I think that you are my hero. I know that sound cheesy, but really, anyone who is willing to do what you are doing is amazing. I think you will be able to reach so many people, especially children.
